Health Benefits of Liquid Chlorophyll

Eat Your Greens
Eat your greens ~ spinach, broccoli, curly lettuce and asparagus. Healthy eating.

Chlorophyll is something I have been researching lately from a nutrition point of view, and I thought that I would share with you what I have learned.

Chlorophyll is a term used to describe several different green pigments naturally occurring in plants. It is an important biomolecule giving plants their ability to photosynthesis, or absorb energy… or rather convert light to energy.

Liquid chlorophyll is sold as a cleansing tonic and can be mixed with water as an easy and tasty cleansing and energizing drink. One of the reasons chlorophyll is so brilliant as an energy booster and tonic is that structurally a molecule of chlorophyll is very similar to a molecule of hemoglobin in our blood. The only difference is that chlorophyll has a magnesium atom at its center and hemoglobin has an iron atom. So it is basically plant blood, πŸ™‚Β pretty cool. This structural similarity means that it is easily absorbed and efficiently used in our body and blood supply.

So a quick run down of some health benefits it boasts:

It is a great alkalizer – great for us all living in a world high in stress and pollutants and other things that tend to make our insides more acidic than is good for us. This can be hard on our kidneys and eventually lead to degenerative diseases like osteoporosis, arthritis etc.

It is a useful antioxidant and is full of vitamins A, C and E.

It has the ability to bind to toxins including (apparently) heavy metals in our body and blood stream and help to remove them from the body.

It is basically instant delivery Magnesium which is great for nerve and muscular function and production of energy.

It also promotes digestive health because of its cleansing properties, and when your digestive system is functioning in peak condition we are always happier and healthier. This can also be good if you have issues with bad breath, which a lot of times is an internal issue more than a hygiene issue.

Anyway that is just a few of the great benefits of incorporating a bit of liquid chlorophyll in you diet. It is not expensive as far as health tonics go and can be used by the whole family, just add a teaspoon to your water bottle each day and your good to go.

Look for it in health stores and pharmacy’s if you want to give it a try

    1. Chlorella has an extremely high percentage of chlorophyll in it amongst other things which make it a super effective detox supplement. The only thing with chlorella is that it can sometimes upset your stomach if you are not used to taking it and the best way to do it as a detox is slowly build up the amount you take over a week or so. Hope that helps. Will pop over and have a read of your blog post. Thanks for reading πŸ™‚

      1. Great advice, thank you. I have been taking chlorella tablets for a few weeks now! My cat accidentally ate one last night so I was panicking about that but having researched on the internet it think it’s good for pets too (although should also build them up to it as it can cause stomach issues).
